Solution to the Three Most Common Complaints About Kitchen Layout

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

According to “Popular Mechanics”, three of the most common complaints about kitchen layouts are: not enough storage, too little counter space, and no place for seating. There is a solution to all three complaints – installation of a kitchen island. Thus, addition of a kitchen island should become a consideration for kitchen remodeling and improvement projects. There are three basic types of kitchen island: island, snack bar, and peninsula.

Kitchen island, as the name implies, is an island placed in the center of the kitchen space. Typically, the kitchen island includes a cooktop, a full sink, or a small prep sink to make the kitchen more efficient, assuming that there is adequate walkway clearance all around it and that the height and size of the island are just right.

Snack bar is typically an extension of a countertop over a cabinet edge or a length of countertop mounted to an unused wall. As the name implies, it is simply a small eating area for having a quick bite. Snack bars are especially good for small kitchens that can not accommodate an island or a peninsula. Some snack bars have a hinge option to drop down the countertop when it is not in use.

Peninsula is a solution in-between the kitchen island and snack bar. To put simply, it is usually an extension of the kitchen countertop that includes a cooktop or sink. For example, installation of a peninsula on a corridor kitchen turns the layout into an “L” shape. Peninsula works best in smaller kitchens where there is not enough open space for a kitchen island.

?What You Need To Know About Maintaining Your Carpets?

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

The beauty and longevity of carpet depends on the care and treatment it is given. According to the Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI), quality carpet that is well maintained should last 10-15 years.

Besides the obvious aesthetics of keeping your carpet clean, there are three primary reasons you should properly maintain your carpets:

Healthier Indoor Air Environment – Carpet plays an important role as an air filter or a sink that traps soil, dust, pollen, animal dander, and other pollutants.  This is a good thing because it helps keep them out of the breathing zone where they may cause health problems. Regular weekly vacuuming with a good quality vacuum cleaner and an annual deep down carpet cleaning by a professional quality cleaning company (carpet cleaner) can remove those contaminants so the indoor air we breathe will be healthier.  You can also help improve your home’s indoor air quality by going to this link IAQ – SearsClean Prolong the Life of Your Carpet – The biggest enemy of your carpet is dirt, oil, grease, spills, and other contaminants left in the carpet.  Without regular removal, this soil when walked upon will grind and abrade the carpet fibers leaving them dull and shortening the useful life.  For more information on carpet cleaning, click here www.SearsClean.com Maintains the Carpet Warranty – Most carpet manufacturers wear or appearance warranties require that the carpet be professionally cleaned using a certified hot water extraction cleaning process every 12 to18 months.

Cleaning and maintaining the right way is easier than you think. All it takes is a little knowledge about how to select the right carpet cleaning company, the proper cleaning products and the right way to clean your carpet. There are many carpet cleaning companies to choose from, but not all of them use the correct method of cleaning carpet and upholstery or use the proper cleaning agents that are safe for your carpet as well as safe for kids and pets. The Sears two – step carpet cleaning process is recommended by America’s largest carpet manufacturer. Furthermore, Sears carpet cleaning solutions are environmentally friendly and safe for kids and pets.

All About DIY Kitchens

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

The kitchen is the most significant room in the house. It is the nerve centre of what keeps the family ticking over. Subsequently when it comes to giving the kitchen a facelift, should you go for a professional or is DIY kitchens in you?

In the existing economic climate, there is no doubt that many of those on the fence may well essentially try their hand at DIY kitchens. If you are handy with tools, then perhaps this is a good choice. For those that struggle to put shelves up though, making a decision such as this is fraught with danger!

If you plan on a major overhaul of the kitchen, then the choice is perhaps not so stark. You will need some specialist tools and will also require some specialist skills. The former could be purchased, or perhaps hired at a cost, but the latter is not something that you can acquire overnight, unless you have a suitable skilled friend to help you.

However, a DIY kitchen facelift is something else, and certainly within the capabilities of a lot more people.

Simply sanding down wooden cupboard doors might be enough to revitalise a kitchen. The same can be said of a worktop, as long as it is wooden. A lick of paint on wooden panels can make a huge difference as well.
